Improving This Site

This is sort of a note for me.  I started to add a Log in probably June 2023 and was working backwards to list older posts. I dropped that effort and I decided yesterday or the day before to revive it.

Back End Analysis is dated June 29, 2023 and is the most recent post on it. I'm going through the listed links, making sure they aren't dead -- I've already removed one dead link -- changing embedded videos to links, sometimes adding labels and making other updates and improvements. 

I've talked about this some on this site and probably elsewhere. I initially tried to include embedded videos or graphics on this site to make the landing page more visually appealing -- because some algorithm took my combo of a black background and beige stream imagery and spit back garish yellow as a site color in excess quantities that I was trying to downplay -- and to go along with the general idea out there that good writing wasn't sufficient and you needed to have videos and graphics to appeal to an internet audience. 

My intended audience is small towns and rural places needing quality information about small scale development which isn't adequately covered by most planning and economic development sources. 

Those places frequently have poor or limited internet access and if they are interested in my ideas, my writing is what's important. Links to videos done by other people is a nice to have in many cases, not a necessity, so I have concluded it makes more sense to make them links rather than embedded and the old embed code is grandfathered in -- still works on older posts that have it if you don't edit them -- but otherwise no longer exists.

The site design and appearance has changed over the years and I no longer feel I need embedded videos and other graphics to make it visually appealing. My focus is increasingly on quality writing and ease of access (including low download burden, ease finding pertinent posts, etc).

I do post related videos on Reddit, especially on r/8l8 here lately. Some of those videos do sometimes end up linked here. There's a place for good video content in my work, I just relate to it differently than I once did.

Earlier this year, I moved a lot of existing content from other sites of mine to here and cleaned up typos, added labels, etc. I tripled or quadrupled the amount of content here by doing that and picked out the best design bits from various sites to create a look I liked that's clean rather than "pretty because embedded videos."

So the estimated "15 posts to go!" To complete a list of 67 posts is now something like 150-175 more posts to go (there's 222 published posts as I write this and only about 50 listed on the Log) AFTER I finish combing through and updating the listed posts to get the Log finished and I continue to post new content at times. 

So this project is likely to be a work in progress for a fair amount of time.

Nonetheless, to make my life easier, I'm already listing it on the landing page so I can easily find it and access it while working on it.
